MaxFund, the no-kill animal shelter and adoption center, hosts its Fifth Annual Holiday Open House from 1 to 4 p.m. today. In addition to providing a chance to visit with animals in search of their "forever home," the event includes photos with Santa, refreshments, a doggy (and human) bake sale, a holiday market, a dog whisperer and a dog trainer, and cat and dog ornaments that benefit MaxFund. Just one note: Some pet experts caution against giving a pet as a surprise gift as the recipient may not be ready for the responsibility.
